Mount Fuji preservation fee was introduced in 2014. This fee helps to preserve the environment of Mount Fuji and ensure the safety of climbers. A fee of 1,000 yen is charged to all climbers heading for the summit of Mount Fuji.
Payment shall be made on the day of climbing at the trail entrance. You also can pay in advance via the Internet or at a convenience store. See the websites of Yamanashi Prefecture and Shizuoka Prefecture for details.
Although the climbing trails of Mount Fuji are developed to prevent straying, many climbers still take the wrong route when descending. It especially happens at the fork to the Yoshida Trail and the Subashiri Trail. Although these two routes take the same descending path from the summit, the trail separates at the Shita-edoya hut located at the eighth station. Signposts along the trails show the Yoshida Trail in yellow and the Subashiri Trail in red, so use the color as a guide when descending.
from TOKYO
All the buses from Tokyo Station to Kawaguchiko Station now operate via Chuo Expressway. By taking the first bus of the day, you arrive at Yoshida Trail’s fifth station around at 10 o’clock. The first bus and buses departing at 10:20 a.m. or earlier bound for Kawaguchiko Station leave from Yaesu South Bus Terminal, and buses departing 11:20 a.m. or later leave from Tekko Building Bus Terminal.

From Shinjuku Station, use a convenient express bus going directly to the Subaru Line fifth station, the entrance to the Yoshida Trail. Additionally, express buses bound for Kawaguchiko Station depart at 30-minute to one-hour intervals. The boarding/landing place is Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal.

from SHIBUYA
Express buses from Shibuya Station bound for Kawaguchiko Station operate 12 times a day. You get on and off the bus at the fifth floor of Shibuya Mark City, a landmark of the Shibuya Station West Exit area. It’s directly connected to Shibuya Station on the Keio Inokashira Line.

Fujikyu Unjokaku, located at the entrance to Mount Fuji’s Yoshida Trail, has been in service with the concept of a “base camp where climbers can spend time more comfortably.” Having a calm exterior appearance and interior decoration not harming the scenery of Mount Fuji as a world heritage site, the facility has a shop area with a wide variety of items to sell, as well as an accommodation space and restaurant. Don’t forget to eat their specialty Fujiyama Croissant as well. Spend your time before and after climbing comfortably at Fujikyu Unjokaku.

A multiple tourist facility with a restaurant, shop, etc., Mori-no-eki Fujisan is base at the southern foot of Mount Fuji. From inside the glassy building, you can enjoy seeing the magnificent scenery of Hoei Volcano, a symbol of Mount Fuji as seen from Shizuoka Prefecture, just in front of you. The facility is adjacent to Mizugazuka Park’s parking lot, which functions as parking for climbers on the Fujinomiya Trail during the private-car restriction period, so the facility is also a gateway to Mount Fuji. At the restaurant, you can enjoy local ingredients, such as Mikuriya-soba (buckwheat noodles) from Gotemba, Susono Pork, and ingredients from Suruga Bay. In the shop, you can buy souvenirs with a motif of Mount Fuji, which are perfect memorials of climbing, as well as specialty local items of Shizuoka Prefecture.
